U15/1 – Round 3 v Canterbury

NSWYC Weblin Shield

26 October, 2025, Frank Grey

After a tough loss to North Shore the previous week, the boys we fired up to play Canterbury this week.

After past experiences on Frank Grey this season, the boys knew there were runs to be scored. But alas, we lost the toss and were sent in to bowl. The boys didn’t drop their heads, but instead took on the challenge with a positive mentality and determined to take early poles. And that’s what we did. After a great couple overs of tight bowling from both Owen and Max with the new ball, we were due for a wicket. The Canterbury openers succumbed to the pressure, and with some sharp fielding from Ben in mid-wicket, we had our first.

The boys rode this energy, with Max, Ben and Ollie all contributing for another 3 wickets for just 7 runs. Beau took 2 of the catches from these wickets, one of them being up to the stumps to a pace bowler. Impressive. After early impact with the new ball, the boys were determined to absolutely roll Canterbury. After more tight fielding and lots of pressure, a wicket for Ben saw Beau taking another brilliant catch down leg, while keeping up to the stumps for a pacer! After a small partnership from Canterbury, the boys took another 3 wickets for just 7 runs, with Raff taking them all. A solid partnership from Canterbury saw themselves claw their way back into the game, going from 8-68 to 8-111. But after a quick drink, the boys decided enough was enough, and Max struck with Beau taking one of the most spectacular catches I’ve ever seen. It was another catch down leg to some genuine pace from Max, with Beau diving full stretch taking a One handed spekkie. Owen finished them off quickly after that, with a hooping in-swinger trapping the #11 plumb in front.

After a great effort with the ball, the boys needed 123 runs to win, but with rain forecasted ahead, you could never be sure. Nate and Archie got off to a quick start with 14 off just 2 overs, but Nate was dismissed early after being caught behind. Drummo came in and consolidated, putting away anything back of the length, with Archie doing his thing at the other end. But a good ball saw Drummo being caught in front. With only 46 runs to win, a bonus point was in sight. After Sean mentioned this at drinks, Archie had one thing to say; “easy”. And that it was. With Beau working singles at the other end, Archie began to tee-off and put on a show, with an aggressive 52 of 51 not out. And before we knew it, it was all wrapped up, with a convincing win of 8 wickets. The boys played well this week, and are excited to ride this confidence into our match against Hawkesbury next week.

Well done boys, Nate
