U12/1 Round 2 v Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hills

NSW YC Cawsey Shield

October 20, 2024. Terry Hills Oval.

Manly (8/183) defeated Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hills (9/170).

On the back of a strong bonus point win the previous week the Manly boys turned up to an overcast day at Terry Hills looking to continue their momentum.

Captain Blake Cotte making it two from two toss wins did not hesitate and elected to bat. As usual the established openers got busy early putting pressure on the opposition with sharp singles before we lost Cruz at the score of 11. A tremendous partnership of 99 between Luke Peak (47) and Ekam Dhillon (66) respectively, supported by some hard hitting from Blake Cotte (21) and Jesse Matheson (8) allowed the team to get a total of 9 for 183.

With runs on the board Manly were keen to wrap up their second win in 2024, Manly opening bowlers, Jesse Matheson (1 wicket) and Eddie Etherington bowled without luck, with near misses & ball going past the edge number of times. Hornsby racing to a 0-70 after 17 overs despite some tight and disciplined bowling from Charlie Corcoran (2 Wickets), Jensen Du Plessis, Ethan Calligeros, Zachary Catchpole. Once again captains brave call to bring his second leg spinner into the game paid dividends immediately, Ekam Dhillon (4 Wickets) getting the much-needed break through and drying out the runs. Manly were on top, applying great pressure in the field through some great bowling and fielding – contributing to two run outs and the opposition falling short and finishing with 9/170.

A tough game and plenty of lessons for the boys – keeping their nerve during an intense chase- well done to the boys. Manly winning by 15 runs.
