U13/1 Round 1 v CDCA

U13 NSW YC Gee Shield

Manly 13/1 v CDCA

13th October 2024, Harbord Park

MWJCA 189 (Stradling 50, Burmeister 30, Hansen 28, Turner 28) defeated CDCA 119 (Mathlin 3/27, Foley 3/7, Rosenkowitz 1/20)

Manly’s season began on a cooler overcast morning, with a game against CDCA at Harbord Park. Captain George won the toss and elected for Manly to have a bat.

Out walked our openers Riley and Jacob, confidently heading to the crease, ready to face Camden’s opening bowlers. Camden’s bowling was consistent, with good line and length being delivered over after over.  Their fielding was strong, however our openers were up to this challenge.  A strong opening partnership saw Jacob get Manly off to a strong start, until he was caught out for 30, while Riley continued on to score 50 before an amazing catch by Camden ended his innings.  George and Justin both scored impressive 28s in a short amount to conintue Manly’s momentum.  Fred and Leo then came in and kept the runs flowing with more boundary’s and a memorable Six from Leo, which saw Manly reach a total of 189 for their 40 overs, which the boys felt would be a defendable score for this field.

Shoaib Uddin Mohammed was the pick of the Camden bowlers, taking 2 wickets in his 8 overs, and also 2 important catches when in the field.

Some wise words of encouragement from coach Chris over lunch, and Manly were ready to get back at it in the field.

The fielding innings had some great learnings for both teams. Manly started well, bowling a consistent line and length, not letting the Camden players get through the infield and building dot ball pressure. Highlighted by Jack and Zac only going for a combined 4 runs off their 8 overs from one end. Fielding was outstanding with George & Justin in particular stopping everything coming their way. Although wickets weren’t coming and with the run rate climbing, once their eyes were in for the Camden openers, Dimitri made an excellent 50 from 86 balls, keeping Camden in the run chase. After he was countered, Manly knew that that was their chance. They grabbed it by the throat and bowled the next 20 overs as consistent as ever, highlighted by Zac, 3-7 off 7 overs and Ryan, 1-20 off 8 overs. Also a good return spell from Will finishing with 3-27 off  8 overs. Manly was the better team in the end, closing out the innings and keeping Camden to 7-119 as to their brilliant 7-189. A great game, thanks for Camden for making it one and well done Manly!
