Manly 98 defeated by Inner West Harbour 7/99
Manly started round 4 of the season an hour earlier due to the heat. Inner West won the toss and sent Manly in to bat on a dewy ground. The fielding standard of Inner West was top notch which saw Jacob Burmeister and Justin Turner leave the crease early. From there Leo Barnett and George Hansen put on a great fight and kept us in the game. After those two got out we had what we call a ‘batting collapse’ where we lost 3 for none to get down to our last two batters.
After lunch it was time to field. A wicket in the first over got Manly up and about and were confident they could win. Some great batting from Oscar Halliday, Arjun Bakal and Jack Phillips put Inner West a good position to win, before Manly began the comeback. Wickets from Will Mathlin (4/27 off 8), George Hansen (1/10 off 4), Jack Egerton (1/30 off 6) and Zac Foley (1/10 off 4) had Inner West 7 down. At drinks, Manly were told to keep everything tight, considering that Inner West only needed 4 runs to win. Will was to bowl the over after drinks, and it looked promising with five dots to start before Max Narayan hit a for to win the game for Inner West.
A lot is to be learnt for Manly in every aspect of the game, whether it be tighter fielding, protecting your wicket, or bowling a good line and length. Manly face the Northen Districts away next week in hopes to make the finals.
GO MANLY!
