U13/2 Round 1 v FLCA

NSW YC Creak Shield

Manly 13/2 v FLCA

13th October 2024, Phillip Park

MWJCA 176/9 (C.Gabriel 46, L.Willis 30, O.Clubbe 24) were defeated by FLCA 179/5 (C.Gabriel 2/29, J.Dale 1/19, J.Renshaw 1/23)

Manly’s First game of the Rep season stared on a sunny morning but with a really cold wind. Manly’s Vice Capitan Luke Willis was filling in for our injured captain and won the toss and elected to bat first to set a total to defend. We were forced to share the field with 2 plovers who had set themselves up at Long off and refused to move for the entire match.

Our openers for the first game were Luke and Reuben who got off to a fast start with a partnership of 32 in the first 5 overs. FLCA made their breakthrough when Reuben (20 off 24) got caught trying to push for more runs. Oscar (24 of 39) came in at 3, and generated a great partnership of 40 runs before losing his wicket to the first of 5 Manly run outs. Sam came in at 4 and was unlucky to get bowled without scoring. Ethan (16 of 18) came in with an intent to score runs fast before he became the second of the run outs. Cooper top scored with 46 off 56 whilst loosing Luke (30 off 60) to a caught and bowled in the 25th over. With a great score on the board Grayson, Jack, Ishann, Jake and Dylan came in trying to push for fast runs in the last 10 overs. The innings ended at a total of 176 for 9 which Manly was confident they could defend if they played well.

The opening bowlers of Jack and Jake bowled the first 8 overs and restricted the runs with Jake taking the first Manly wicket of the season. Grayson and Ishaan bowled in the next spell but couldn’t get a breakthrough as the FLCA batsmen had built a strong partnership. We brought our two spinners Cooper and Talon to try and break the partnership. At the drinks break everyone was confident and happy with our efforts so far. Cooper then got his first wicket in the 21st over with a great caught behind by Reuben who had already made numerous run saving efforts behind the stumps. Dylan brought the pace back to one end with Sam at the other. The opening bowlers of Jack and Jake came back for another spell with Jack getting a breakthrough with a clean bowled in the 28th over. The match was very close at this point, and no one was sure who was going to win. With FLCA getting closer to Manly’s total , the bowlers were all given one over spells to try and break the partnership. Cooper then got his second having the fast scoring No 5 batsmen caught in the outfield.  With 5 overs to go, FLCA needed 27 to win. In the 38th over Sam threw the stumps down with a direct hit from extra cover. In the 39th over FLCA hit the winning runs and beat Manly. It was a really close game and we took a lot of positives away from the game, and we have a lot to work on for next time.
