After a night of heavy rain, the game was moved to a synthetic wicket to the dismay of the girls and coaches. On an overcast day a late start allowed for a comprehensive warm up and plenty of stretching before the toss at 10:30am.
A good toss to win the Manly girls elected to bowl first on the damp pitch.
Having had a great warm up, full and straight bowling from Darcey started the innings off with a wicket in her first over neatly followed by Lara to obtain a wicket off her first ball. Impressive bowling from our openers, Darcey and Lara were able to restrict the opposition’s runs to 5/16 after 8.
Sophia entered the attack with solid bowling only conceding 1 run in her first over maintaining the pressure on the batters. Lara continued her great form collecting another wicket to her name and building dot ball pressure on the batters. Striking again in the 16th over Lara took 2 more wickets unlucky not to get a 5fa. Fantastic bowling Lara, keep it up.
With the sun coming out, something good was bound to happen.
The girls were looking good at the 17th over keeping them to only 28 runs. With the intense fielding and bowling Daisy came into bowl her first over. A few balls in, bowled, next ball bowled, Daisy was on a hat trick… with only one more batter left. Next ball, “HOWZAT” the girls cry in desperation for a close LBW decision, not out says the umpire. Next ball, coming straight back at Daisy hard and fast, it stuck, caught and bowled… 3 wickets in 4 balls… all the batters out for 31 in 17.5 overs. Great bowling Daisy!
Congratulations Daisy and Lara for career best figures.
Full and straight bowling by the girls left the umpires gobsmacked at the dismissals, 8 bowled,1 LBW and a caught and bowled to end their innings. With only a total of 32 runs for the victory, it was all smiles in the tent.
The opening pair, Hannah and Charlotte C were ready to go looking for the runs every ball. Hannah off the mark straight away with a comfortable single, followed by Charlotte. Two 4s and quick running between the wickets, Manly had 13 runs off the first over, right on track for the bonus point. Another huge over with 12 runs off it, only 7 runs needed for the win. 3 more runs in the next over and Manly are 0/30 after 3 overs. A quick single from Hannah allowed Charlotte to hit the winning runs over point to secure the victory and bonus point. Another great partnership from Hannah and Charlotte allowing good preparation for the game next week.
The win puts the Peden team into second place, looking forward to the game against ACT in Canberra next week.
