NSW YC Foster Shield
Sunday 10 November 2024, Collaroy Plateau.
MWJCA (3/256) defeated Northern District (10/42).
Our Round 5 game was our first game of the season at Collaroy. The venue has good memories for many of the team from last year’s grand final and we were hoping for another strong performance.
Northern District won the toss and elected to bowl first. Alexander Claxton and Samuel Parker got Manly off to a flyer with Samuel getting 60 and Alex 94. Jack Wylie, Atticus McFadden and Hugo Swinney continued the good batting form with Hugo scoring 50 off the last ball of our innings from only 38 balls.
We ended up with a monster total reaching 3/256 in our 40 overs.
After the great display from the batters, we got off to a strong start with a run out by Jack Wylie and Archie Sams. In the third over Manly got another wicket with a catch being taken by Atticus McFadden off the bowling of Oliver Cooper. In over six Hamish Pike took two wickets (one caught by Atticus McFadden and one bowled) which left the visitors 4 wickets down after 6 overs with only 3 runs on the board.
In over 12 Virat Chakravarty claimed his first wicket of the innings (bowled) followed by Hugo Swinney in over 16 with another batter being clean bowled! Our next wicket was in over 21; Toby Cavill took a catch off his own bowling and two overs later Toby took his second wicket (bowled) reducing the opposition to 8/39 after 23 overs. In the 24th over, Leo Ellis put a close to the innings by taking two wickets (Caught and bowled and an LBW) reducing Northern District to 42 all out.
A great win for the team on a blustery day – the batsmen laid an excellent platform (our highest first innings total) for the bowlers, who in turn bowled with precision supported by great fielding from the team.
Looking forward to next Sunday!!!
