Sunday the 10th of December was our second game in the Mollie Dive Shield. We had to drive all the way to Wollongong through some very thick fog, where we played Greater Illawarra at Thomas Dalton Park.
We were lucky to win the toss, deciding to bat. Our opening batters Sonia Punter and Trinity McNeil got us off to a great start keeping the runs ticking over. We lost our first wicket in the 6th over when Trinny was given out LBW. After this Matilda Brown came on to bat. We kept getting lots of runs but lost a few more wickets. Matilda was batting amazingly, getting her 50, and going on to get 60 not out from 70 deliveries. The innings finished and we were 4 for 172. A nice total.
When the innings break finished everyone had lots of energy and was ready to take on Greater Illawarra. Goldie Conway and Matilda Brown were our opening bowlers and they did a great job by keeping the pressure up and stopping the runs. Sonia Punter got our first wicket in the 7th over which was a catch by Matilda Brown. Sonia’s outstanding bowling continued, including a hat trick ball, and led to her getting 5 wickets for 8 runs! After 15 overs we had already gotten 6 wickets and it was looking good for us. After drinks the wickets kept tumbling with catches being taken everywhere. We ended up not dropping a single catch.
The match ended with Indi Vale taking 2 wickets in the 24th over to bowl out Greater Illawarra for 62 runs.
It was another great team performance, giving us two wins to start the season. Thanks to the umpires and scorers, coaches Steve and Dave, parents/families for the support, and Illawarra for hosting.
