U12 NSW Youth Championship Cawsey Shield, Round 6, Jack Nash Oval, 12 November 2023
After a long drive, we would be out at Camden. With some early morning warm weather and a fast looking outfield, Camden won the toss and took the opportunity to bat first. Their openers would get off to a tough start, with Manly opening bowlers Will and Jack beating the bat consistently with fantastic swing bowling. Jack getting both openers to finish with 2/7 off 4 overs. Highlighted by a swinging ball from Jack, the edge and an absolute screamer catch from Markus at slip. With some insane deliveries from Will, one over beating the bat 4 times, he finally got the edge with a great keepers catch from Josh who was doing great work behind the stumps. Will finishing with 1/5 off 4 overs.
Enter first change bowlers Toby and George and the home side would come crashing down. Toby and George bowling full and quick to tear through the Camden middle order. Toby finishing with 3/10 off 4 overs and George 1/6 off 4 overs.
The fielding effort from the boys was exceptional. Justin with 3 great pieces of fielding resulting in 2 run outs and one direct hit with the batsman just home. Not to forget an amazing over the head catch at point from a flying cut shot. After a slight resistance from the final 2 batters, and some streaky hitting Camden would be bowled out for 55.
Manly opening batters Riley 28* off 57 and Jacob 19 off 47 made good work of the small total against some tight
full bowling. Digging out many yorkers and pushing the gaps with risk free batting. A solid partnership of 49 with
Jacob stumped with only a few runs left to get. Ryan 7* off 8 would come in and finish the game to pass Camden’s score 1 down in the 18 th over. A dominant display by the boys and a nice early mark for the parents.
Great stuff Manly!
