U13/1 Round 5 v Northern Districts

NSW YC – Gee Shield

10 November, Curtis Oval

Beautiful sunny conditions lead to the start of a great game against the undefeated Northen District side. ND’s won the toss and elected to bowl first, to Manly’s surprise but did not unsettle the top order. Jacob Burmeister and Riley Stradling got off to a good start, but some miscommunication and expert fielding lead to the downfall of Riley’s wicket, being run out for 2 of 8 balls.

In response to this wicket, Ryan Rosenkowitz came out to bat determined and ready for a fine knock. Burmeister and Rosenkowitz batted exceptionally, pulling off a partnership of 40 runs, keeping Manly in the game. Post drinks, the partnership continued but some good bowling saw Burmeister walking, for 25 off 63 balls.

From there, it was only up for the Manly batting side. Manly skipper, George Hansen, in fine form, had another class innings batting with Ryan, but the partnership eventually came to an end seeing Rosenkowitz off caught, for a great knock of 40 of 87 balls. This wicket saw vice-captain, Justin Turner come into bat. From there, a master class commenced. Justin and George knocked NDs around the park, with 11 4’s, and a 70-run partnership. Hansen was luckily dropped and went on to score 20 more runs.

Sadly, a great partnership came to an end, with Hansen being caught on 40 off 43 balls. With 2 more overs to bat, Josh Hill came out, to support Turner out in the middle. Justin and Josh stayed in for the rest of the innings with Justin finishing on 45* off 33 balls, with an outstanding strike rate of 136.36, and Josh with a fine 2* off 7 balls. Manly finished the innings with 4 – 166, sending NDs into bat confident that they could defend the total.

After lunch Manly came into bowl. In our second over Jack Egerton got a wicket which kept our hopes high making it 1-4. The blazing heat made it hard to keep our energy up but a good partnership from Rohan Joshi scoring 17 off 38 came to and end when Burmeister got an outstanding catch off Zac Foley making it 2-32. The new batters had a great partnership lasting until drinks break with ND being at more runs than Manly at drinks break they were in a good position.

But before long in the 27 th over, George broke the partnership by taking a crucial wicket leaving the team 3-95. Shortly after Ryan caught Tej Shah off Will Mathlins bowling and in the 29th Josh stumped Ariya Indrajit off Georges bowling, leaving them 5-100. In the 30th over Jack bowled and with a little bit of mis-communication between the batters, there was a run out leaving them for 6-107. Soon after in the 33rd over Kaveesh Verma was caught behind by Josh off Zac leaving the team for 7-108 and Will got Haveesh Singh out for 0 off 2 caught by Ryan leaving them for 8-109. Leo Barnett then bowled a great ball and Agastya Singh was dismissed through a run out. With some great bowling and fielding, ND were restricted to 150.

Congratulations to Manly on a well-earned victory!
