NSW Youth Championship – Creak Shield
Sunday 10th November, Armour Park, Revesby
MANLY 7/264 (I Kumar Singh 99* , J Dale 73, D Brabant 20* ) defeated BANKSTOWN 6/196 (J. Renshaw 1/33, J Maris 1/29, I Kumar Singh 1/14, C Gabriel 1/37, D Brabant 1/15 by 68 runs.
We arrived at Armour Park, Bankstown on what proved to be a warm, and very windy day. We were feeling confident given the win the previous week and were looking to continue our good form and push to make semi finals. We went into the game with a squad of 12, but without our main keeper and opening bat Reuben Reed. Despite not being able to play, it was a great boost for the team to have Reubs in the tent, running the drinks and being there for the entire day.
We lost the toss and were sent into bat, Armour Park in Revesby looked really good with fresh cut grass. We were missing our normal opening strike batsman Rueben due to a broken thumb, but Oscar again stepped in to open with Luke on strike.
Both our opening batsmen were looking keen, scoring runs but unfortunately, we lost an early wicket. Ethan came to the crease and was strong, cracking balls to the fence with his drives. Jack Dale joined Ethan and made a bit of a partnership. We lost a few more quick and very, very unlucky wickets.
Grayson came to the crease and exploded with some fast 2’s and boundaries adding to the team’s tally. Next in was Ishaan to partner Jack D, right off the start Ishaan smashes a four over the bowler’s head. Jack D and Ishaan built a solid partnership hitting 5 runs an over. Jack D and Ishaan both made 50 runs, with centre wicket celebrations all round. The Bankstown captain brings back the opening bowler and first ball Jack D was out caught and bowled at 73. Jack D and Ishaan got a partnership of 121.
In comes Dylan and gets off to an awesome start supporting Ishaan who is smashing nearly every ball to the boundary at this point. Dylan was on fire and scored 20 runs. Ishaan works his way to 97 and was given a free hit on the last ball. Everyone was cheering for Ishaan to make a century, he went for it and hit a 2 to give him 99* not out.
What an innings, Ishaan terrified the Bankstown bowlers with his ferocious hitting. Manly ending up with 7-264. OUR HIGHEST SCORE
The Bankstown innings started in careful steady fashion, Manly bowling tightly, on the stumps and fielding well allowing the scoreboard pressure to do all the talking on the Bankstown batsman. The Bankstown top 4 all looked accomplished talented players, batting nicely and showed no signs of getting out.
Bankstown never really threatened the target score and wickets each for Jack Maris, the first wicket of the innings then followed by Jake Renshaw, Cooper Gabriel, Dylan Brabant and Singh. There was a smart run out from Grayson assisted as Sam’s quick throw ensured that the hosts were unable to make a attack on the mountainous Manly score. Bankstown were only able to really attack in the last few overs, by then it was far too late.
Manlys good form continues, there were two excellent catches in the deep for Oscar Clubbe and the run out by Sam McKims assisted by Grayson quickly whipping the bails off shows the recent fielding improvements giving us back to back wins.
